China, Romania Pledge to Work for Full-range Partnership

Chinese President Hu Jintao and Romanian President Ion Iliescu agreed in
Bucharest Sunday that the two countries will work together to build "full-range cooperative partnership."

The two presidents met for the second time in 10 months. Their formal talks lasted for more than one hour and they witnessed the signing of four bilateral documents that will expand their cooperation in culture, tourism, economic cooperation and overall relations.

Hu proposed that China and Romania increase visits by leaders of government, legislature and political parties, encourage enterprises to increase investments, and hold cultural festival, exhibitions and film week to celebrate the 55th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In addition, he said the two countries should expand tourism cooperation as Romania has become a tourism destination of China.

Quite a number of European nations have seen more Chinese travel groups over the past several years. A few other countries are negotiating with China on the matter.

Iliescu has visited China five times. He said he agreed with Hu's proposal and pledged that Romania will continue to observe the one-China policy.

The Romania president said as his country is trying to join the European Union and is also upgrading its national infrastructure, Romania and China can have good cooperation in many new areas.

Romania is the third leg of Hu's four-nation tour. He is expected to meet with Romanian prime minister and other leaders Monday before continuing his trip to Uzbekistan.
