Pakistan Thursday sent two C- 130 aircraft loaded with 24 tons of relief supplies to Japan, the Pakistani Foreign Ministry said.

The relief items include 13.5 tons of high power biscuits, 9 tons of milk packs and 1.5 tons of mineral water, a Foreign Ministry statement said.

The consignment was seen off by Pakistan's Additional Secretary Syed Hasan Javed and Ambassador of Japan to Pakistan, Chihiro Atsumi.

The Ambassador of Japan expressed thanks for provision of timely assistance, the statement said.

"Pakistan stands ready to provide any assistance to help our Japanese friends in future as well," it said.

A massive earthquake and tsunami struck Japan's northeast coast nearly two weeks before, during which the number of people confirmed dead or listed as missing rose above 26,000 on Thursday, according to reports.
