A 6.7-magnitude earthquake rocked Peru on Friday at 13:54 local time (1854 GMT) near the southern coastal department of Ica, causing alarm in several places in the affected region but with no damages or victims reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said the epicenter was located near the coast of central Peru at 288 kilometers southeast from Lima and 51 km from Ica and had a depth of 23.0 kilometers.

As yet, there haven't been reports of damages or victims. On Aug. 15, 2007, a major earthquake of 7.9 magnitude shook the same region and caused the death of almost 500 people and great property damages.

The earthquake was felt in several Peruvian cities like Huancalvelica, Ayacucho, Cusco, Huanuco, Arequipa and the capital Lima. The Geophysical Institute of Peru first put magnitude at 6.3.
