Egypt's former president Hosni Mubarak has received an official request from Attorney General Abdel-Meguid Mahmoud to investigate him and his sons, state media said on Monday.

Interior Minister Mansour al-Eissawi told Dubai-based Al- Arabiya TV that the ministry will guarantee full security of the former president and his sons on their way to the court, MENA news agency said.

But he did mention whether the former president has decided or not to appear in court, said the report.

Mahmoud decided Sunday to question Mubarak and his two sons over accusations about the use of violence against protestors during the anti-government demonstrations from late January to early February.

In his first address since he stepped down on Feb. 11, Mubarak said he "will uphold all my legal rights to defend my reputation" and he and his family agreed to any measures to be taken to unveil their bank accounts overseas in a recorded audio speech aired by pan-Arab Al-Arabiya TV on Sunday.

Mubarak was forced to step down on Feb.11 after 18 days of protests against his rule. The demonstrations left at least 384 dead and more than 6,000 injured.
