Bahrain on Thursday slammed Iran's interference in its internal affairs after the latter communicated with international organizations expressing concern about the situation in the Kingdom.

Hamad Al Amer, Bahrain's Foreign Ministry official in charge of Regional and Gulf Cooperation Council Affairs, described the Iranian step as a "very strange act and an encroachment" on the sovereignty of Bahrain.

"We wonder who authorized Iran to speak on behalf of Bahrain. We also wonder if Iran has imposed its guardianship over the people of Bahrain to allow its Foreign Minister to send messages to the United Nations and the Organization of Islamic Conference ( OIC)," Al Amer told the Bahrain News Agency.

Iranian Foreign minster had sent letters to the UN, OIC and the Arab League expressing concerns about the situation of Bahrain, especially the arrival of GCC troops to crackdown on anti- government protestors.

"Bahrain is committed to the principles of neighborly relations and does not interfere in the affairs of other states. Therefore, it calls on the UN, OIC and Arab League to turn down the Iranian calls for they are breaching international laws and conventions," Mr Al Amer said.

Bahrain summoned its ambassador to Tehran on Tuesday. The following day Iranian State TV said its ambassador in Manama, Mahdi Aghajafari, was asked to return home for consultations.
