France on Tuesday asked all domestic financial institutions to put Egypt-related assets under surveillance amid mounting concerns over ousted Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and his families' assets in some European countries.

"In light of recent events in Egypt, all professionals ... are invited to apply with particular attention to additional cautious measures" against "all suspicious operations involved directly or indirectly of persons referred to ... and linked with Egypt," the department against illicit financial activities and money laundering under the French Economy and Finance Ministry said in a statement.

The statement requested all professionals and institutions to report any related incident to French authorities without delay.

Responding to a request from the new Egyptian authority, France has announced to freeze some assets of former Egyptian senior officials that had worked for Mubarak. But the French foreign ministry said Mubarak and his relatives were not in the list.

Following the move of the Swiss government to freeze Mubarak's accounts and other treasures in the neutral country, Britain, France, Germany and the United States all received requests from Egypt to prevent embezzlement of assets related to Mubarak's regime.
