The six Al Jazeera journalists who were arrested in Cairo have been released, the Qatar-based TV channel said Monday.

Al Jazeera reported earlier that six of its English service journalists have been arrested in Cairo amid the large scale demonstrations demanding Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak to step down.

Egyptian government on Sunday banned the pan-Arab TV network operation in Cairo, complaining the TV channel's reports could encourage more unrest.

Tens of thousands of Egyptians have taken to the streets for the seventh day protest against poverty, high unemployment and corruption of government.
