Chinese and Malaysian leaders will sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on the fighting of cross-border crime to maintain regional security.

Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Hishammuddin Hussein made the remarks in Malaysia's federal administration center here on Tuesday after holding a closed-door meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia Chai Xi.

Hishammuddin told reporters that the leaders from the two countries would sign the MoU in Beijing, capital of China.

According to Hishammuddin, China and Malaysia are concern about non-conventional crime, including trade in persons, money laundering, terrorism, drug-related and vice activities.

The minister said that Malaysia has maintained good relations with China, and more practical collaborations would be established in future to strengthen the bilateral cooperation.

The cooperation included duties allocation and other relevant training, added Hishammuddin.

Meanwhile, Chai Xi said China and Malaysia must establish close ties in combating transnational crime, given the fact the number of the criminal activities was on the rise.

He also said that China and ASEAN countries have been getting along with each other harmoniously, but they were now faced with threat of cross-border crime.

Chai said the Chinese authority was arranging for Malaysian leaders to visit Beijing next year to ink the said MoU.
