A Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman said here Thursday that the civilian nuclear cooperation between China and Pakistan was for peaceful purposes.

Such cooperation was based on equality and mutual benefit, spokesman Qin Gang said at a regular press briefing.

The cooperation fully complied with the two countries' respective international obligations and was subject to the supervision of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Qin said.
