The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has planned to install surveillance cameras in schools across the Gulf nation amid concerns of rising violence among young children, a Dubai-based English daily reported Wednesday.

Hamad Harith Al Midfa, a member of the UAE's legislative body, expressed concern about an increase in school violence and young kids committing serious crimes, Gulf News said.

"As parents and educators, we must make sure our children are aware that these problems exist and take the necessary steps to report any assaults," he was quoted as saying during a session of the Federal National Council.

According to Al Midfa, who suggested that CCTV camera security systems be installed in schools to help monitor and prevent violence, a pupil was stabbed to death in Dubai and some 200 students in the emirate of Ajman got involved in fights with knives.

UAE Education Minister Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qutami said his ministry was committed to combating violence and crimes inside schools.

The Education Ministry plans to fix CCTV camera security systems in schools across the country, he added, without giving a time frame, according to Gulf News.
