China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin on Thursday pledged to work with France to advance the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two nations.

"We should work together to achieve the long-term, stable and healthy growth of China-France ties," said Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC).

Jia made the remarks when meeting with Xavier Bertrand, secretary general of the Union for a Popular Movement party (UMP) of France.

Good relations between China and France, both influential nations in the world, served the fundamental interests of the two countries and the two peoples, and were conducive to world peace, stability and prosperity, Jia said.

"We attach great importance to the relations with France," he said, hoping that the two nations would proceed from the overall situation of bilateral friendship and stick to the right direction of the development of China-France ties.

Hailing UMP's positive attitude towards promoting China-France and China-EU relations, Jia hoped the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the UMP would further increase exchanges and cooperation in various sectors to deepen mutual trust.

The two parties signed a memorandum of exchanges, cooperation and understandings earlier Thursday, after the talks between Wang Jiarui, head of the International Department of CPC Central Committee, and Bertrand.

This would help usher the friendly cooperation between the two parties into a new period, Jia said.

Jia also briefed Bertrand on China's energy-saving efforts and measures to deal with climate change, saying that the country would continue making contribution within capacity to respond to the climate change issue.

"We are ready to play a constructive role in achieving a successful outcome at the Copenhagen Conference," Jia noted.

Praising China's response to climate change, Bertrand said France would increase coordination with China to strive for a successful Copenhagen Conference.

Bertrand also spoke highly of China's important and responsible role in other international affairs.

As to party-to-party ties, Bertrand said French President Nicolas Sarkozy's ruling UMP party would work with the CPC to build up the relationship of mutual trust and close cooperation.

The UMP would make concerted efforts with the CPC to push forward France-China relations, he noted.

Bertrand and his delegation were here on a visit at the invitation of the CPC from Oct. 21 to 25.
