Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi met with his Republic of Korea (ROK) counterpart Yu Myung Hwan in Shanghai Tuesday, pledging to bolster the strategic cooperative partnership between the two neighboring states.

The top diplomats hailed the meeting between Chinese President Hu Jintao and his ROK counterpart Lee Myung-bak last week in New York.

Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao will also chair a trilateral leaders' meeting on Oct. 10 in Beijing, which will be attended by President Lee and Japan's new Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama.

"The two countries should strengthen exchanges and coordination, implement consensus reached by leaders of the two countries and increase pragmatic cooperation to push forward Sino-ROK strategic and cooperative partnership," Yang said during the 75-minute meeting at the Xijiao State Guest House in East China's economic hub.

Yu congratulated China on its 60th founding anniversary, saying the Chinese economy is recovering, which plays an important role in economic recovery of Asia and the world as a whole.

The ROK will work with China to cope with the international financial crisis, he said.

Yang and Yu also pledged to cooperate for the financial summit of the Group of 20 that is slated for November, 2010 in the ROK and exchanged views on international and regional issues of common concern.
