Tension between Israel, Iran continues to grow

Israel versus Iran is playing prominently in world headlines. While some speculate a looming conflict between the two countries within the coming months, other say the back and forth is mere rhetoric providing cover for other pressing issues.

Iran's Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast speaks during a press conference in Tehran, Iran, Feb. 7, 2012.

With each passing week tension and rhetoric between Iran and Israel grows.

Israels media continues carrying daily stories of an imminent strike on Irans nuclear facility.

U.S. President Obama inferred publicly that Israel could strike Iran independent of U.S. approval

And Irans parliamentary website issued a decree to strike Israel first and not wait for a hit.

Speculation is high and the mood is tense.

"The world must wake up because its not only Iran. Its Europe, its everything. Something happened and I dont feel good. I dont feel good. Something is going to happen."

Speculation over an imminent clash increased this week in Israel when a new Air Force commander was appointed, fuelling the rumor mill.

It is largely believed that any Israeli strike will be carried out by air.

“I guess its a process and its gonna happen sometime. Intelligence says that you need to stop it now so ...Im a believer. I believe that you have to do something."

Predictions of when Israel might strike Iran are running rampant but military experts say reality weighs heavier than mere speculation

Any timetable is dictated by key factors.

Ephraim Kam, Israel Inst. for National Security Studies, said, "The assessment is about a year Iran will have the first bomb. When Iran has the First bomb its too late. We cannot attack a country with nuclear weapons. Secondly the protection of these sites is progressing all the time. This dictates part of the timetable."

Despite seeming urgency, some say the entire issue is fabricated.

"Its just a cover story to move the public opinion from whats going here and now. 42:54 - Thats how things work in our capitalistic society: you dont say the truth you say something else and people look towards that stuff and dont deal with issues that are really important that in my eyes are much more threatening to our being than that alleged bomb"

Alleged or not, no side will walk away unscathed if either attacks

Tensions are high right now in the region and there are a lot of questions: namely how would Iran going nuclear affect the region and would Israel strike preemptively to keep that from happening with or without US. One thing analyst agree on: Iran probably wont preemptively hit Israel but they also agree that if Israel strikes there will be a strike back and there will be casualties.
