Terry Fox was an 18 year old from British Columbia, who was diagnosed with bone cancer in his right knee. Amputation and therapy left him an artificial leg.

After training on his new leg for 14 months, he embarked on a cross-Canada run to raise money and awareness for research into the disease, covering a full 42 kilometres each day, aided by an artificial leg. This was his marathon of HOPE. However, his cancer subsequently spread and he died in June 1981, mid-way through the run.

None the less, his inspirational story has touched millions of Canadians that witnessed him, and people that heard about his story including young Chinese.
