U.S. president Barack Obama and British prime minister Gordon Brown showed their support for a second round of voting in Afghanistan's disputed election.

Barack Obama, U.S. president, said, "President Karzai, as well as the other candidates, have shown that they have the interests of the Afghan people at heart, that this is a reflection of a commitment to a rule of law and an insistence that the Afghan people's will should be done, and so I expressed the American people's appreciation for this step."

Gordon Brown, UK Prime Minister, said, "The decision to have a second round is the right one. The decisions made by President Karzai and then by Doctor Abdullah, that they support that, are also the right ones. I congratulate them on the votes they have got through this round, but I think it is very important that the person who is elected can be seen to command the confidence of the majority of the Afghan people."
