A Chinese survivor of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre has received compensation of 315,000 yuan from a Japanese historian and a publishing house.
80-year-old Xia Shuqin filed a case in 2000 against Japanese author Shudo Higashinakano, accusing him of denying the Nanjing massacre ever occurred.
After nearly a decade long trial, the Japanese Supreme Court hammered out the final ruling on the case in February this year. It ordered the defendants to pay damages of over 300,000 yuan to Xia Shuqin.
Xia's family was slaughtered during the Nanjing Massacre 72 years ago. But Higashinakano wrote a book called "Complete Investigation into the Nanjing Massacre". It says Xia was not a witness to the mass murder, and described the Nanjing Massacre as the biggest lie in the 20th century.
