A tour of Xi'an
Adjust font size:

By Bethany Tuggle

One of the best parts of being an Olympics volunteer is getting to see things I would have probably never seen otherwise. The Buddhist temple standing at the south end of the city square of Xi'an, China is one of those things.

If I and the 11 others with me had visited the city square just 3 months ago, we would have been able to go inside the temple. However, the earthquake that devastated the Sichuan Province (800 km., 500 mi. away) did some damage in Xi'an too, causing the temple to lean slightly to the west.

I wasn't disappointed about not being able to go in, but rather fascinated by the image. Now China has its own leaning tower.

There are many other things to see and experience at the city square. The children seemed to be having the most fun as they splashed around in the water and even blew bubbles as they waited for the grand water show to begin, and I think I had the most fun watching them.
