The annual Qingdao International Beer Festival is jointly sponsored by state ministries and the Qingdao Municipal Government. It began in 1991. It opens on the second weekend of August each year, in the middle of tourist season in Qingdao, and lasts for 16 days. The festival includes many activities like beer tasting, literary evenings and beer-drinking competitions. The festival art tours fall into four categories: musical; local art; minority group art; and international art. Among the performances are martial arts, acrobatics, folk art, singing and dancing. While enjoying music of all kinds at the festival's numerous stage venues, one can try beers from around the globe, including Bittberger from Germany, Heineken from the Netherlands and, of course, Qingdao's own Tsingtao brand. After 16 years of experience, the Qingdao International Beer Festival enjoys a wide reputation both nationally and internationally.
