OECD, the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, has published a global report, ranking the performance of schools’ education systems by assessing 15-year-old students in two main subjects -- mathematics and science -- in 76 countries and regions across the world.

Singapore outperforms 75 other economies, with an average score of 562.5 -- 573.5 in mathematics and 551.5 in science. China’s Hong Kong takes second place, followed by South Korea.

The top five spots are all taken by Asian countries and regions. African countries are at the bottom.

The report is the first of its kind, and covers more than a third of the world's economies. The Chinese mainland is not included.
