Located in Shanghai, Tongji University is one of the oldest and notable universities in China. Its history can be traced back to 1907 when Tongji German Medical School was founded by Erich Paulun, a German doctor in Shanghai. It was formally established as a university in 1923 and was renamed in 1927. Among its various departments, its architecture and civil engineering departments are considered the best in the nation.
