South Africa's premier rider Robert Hunter won the 109-km Cape Argus Pick Pay Cycle tour on Sunday in Cape Town timing two hours, 32 minutes and 36 seconds.

His victory also brought the curtain down on a clean sweep week for the Barloworld team who took hold of the week-long Cape Argus Pick Pay Giro del Capo on the second day of the event, the SAPA news agency reported on Sunday.

In close tow to hunt was last year's Sunday stage winner Steffen Radochia, of the Weisenhof-Felt team, with Regiostrom Senges' Malaya Van Ruitenbeek taking the final podium spot while MTN Microsoft's Malcolm Lange and Davitamon-Win for Life-Long Vlaanders Jurgen Oelandts finished fourth and fifth, respectively.

The only other South African rider to join Hunter and Lange in the top 10 was MTN Microsoft's Daryl Impey who finished in a credible seventh place.

In the women's race, Duravit Anke Erlank Moore came first with 17-year-old Cherissa Taylor of Konica Minolta coming in second and Proline's Marissa van der Merwe completing the top three.

Cape Argus Pick Pay Cycle Tour, the world's largest individually timed cycle race, sees over 35,000 cyclists tackling a 109-km route around Cape Town. The one-day race is traditionally staged on the second Sunday of March, which falls on March 11 this year.

This year also marks the 30th anniversary of the competition.
