Rowing: Medal Success for China at Cup Regatta

China's oarswomen scored two golds and three silvers in the second leg of the Rowing World Cup in Poznan, Poland, yesterday.

Yu Hua overtook her European rivals to take first place in the women's lightweight single scull event.

Pair's rowers Xu Dongxiang and Yan Shimin, plus teammates Fan Xuefei and Chen Haixia, pulled off a one-two finish in the women's lightweight double sculls events.

The powerful Xu-Yan combination set a new world record of six minutes and 49.77 seconds, trumping the best time Australia set at the 2004 Athens Olympics.

The Chinese athletes rounded off their tally with two more silvers in the women's quadruple sculls and women's eights.

The Rowing World Cup is an annual team competition, created in 1997, comprising three international regattas per year.?

The venues for this year's Rowing World Cup series are: Munich (Germany) from 25 to 27 May, Poznan (Poland) from 15 to 17 June, and Lucerne (Switzerland) from 7 to 9 July.

China's Xu and Yu Hua clocked seven minutes and 11.36 seconds to win the women's double sculls title during the first leg in Munich.
