Defending champions Chelsea suffered a 0-3 loss to Sunderland at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, tasting their first home defeat at the Premier League this season.

The Blues were overwhelmed by a sparking Sunderland, who forced a 1-1 tie with Spurs also in London on Tuesday, and had their lead cut to just two points as Arsenal moved ahead of Manchester United into second place with a 2-1 win over Everton.

Petr Cech kept busy in the last 10 minutes of the first half, but a weak defence from his teammates finally saw the Czech international being beaten by Nedum Onuoha's shot in the last minute of the first half after the visitor past three Chelsea players comfortably.

Sunderland maintained the pressure on the hosts' goalmouth and Asamoah Gyan enlarged their advantage with a clinic finish seven minutes after the break.

Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti made three changes to the squad later but his side failed to make any reply.

Earlier at Goodison Park, Bacary Sagna put Arsenal ahead with a powerful shot nine minutes before the break and captain Cesc Fabregas added a second three minutes after the interval.

Arsenal goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski performed extremely well in the final minutes as Everton fought hard but could only chased one goal back with Tim Cahill's half volley in the 89th minute.
