Greece coach Jonas Kazlauskas described the World Championship Group C clash against host Turkey as a "psychologically great match".

However, the European champion went down 76-65 as the players were blasted by deafening boos and whistles at the packed Ankara basketball arena.

Whenever a Greek player touched the ball, the overwhelming decibel level put a great deal of mental pressure on them.

"It was a tough match. The stadium was crowded," said Kazlauskas. "Our players were mentally under pressure and we were not focused today."

Greek captain Antonios Fotsis admitted the atmosphere made it difficult for his side against its arch-rival.

"Turkey is playing at home. It got great support from the fans. We came to closing the gap several times, but we just could not make it," he said.

Meanwhile, ambitious Turkey is relishing its home-court advantage and is aiming for at least a medal at the Worlds.

"We are lucky to be playing at home. We have a great atmosphere and great supporters here," said Turkey's point guard, Ender Arslan. "This was the greatest moment in my career," he said after the victory.

Turkey is unbeaten in its three matches and is now heavily favored to win the group.
