AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti said yesterday he would leave the club by mutual agreement but he did not say he was going to join Chelsea.

"I can't say anything else official. I have not made any agreement with any other club," he told Sky TV.

Ancelotti's announcement came as Torino became the third and final team to be relegated from the Italian Serie A when it lost 2-3 away to AS Roma in the last round, while Milan secured a direct spot in next season's Champions League.

Torino needed to win and hope relegation rival Bologna dropped points to avoid joining Reggina and Lecce in Serie B next season. Bologna beat Catania 3-1 to finish in 17th place with 37 points, while Torino ended on 34.

Bari, Parma and the winner of the promotion playoff will be the newcomers in Serie A next season.

Milan won 2-0 away to Fiorentina to finish second and take the final automatic Champions League place. Fiorentina finished fourth and will have to qualify for Europe's top-tier club competition.

The match represented Milan captain Paolo Maldini's last match before retiring after 902 matches for Milan in 24 seasons.

Inter Milan, which was crowned champion two weeks ago, ended season by winning 4-3 at home to Atalanta, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic's double enough to make him the league's top scorer with 25 goals.

Inter also said farewell to Luis Figo, who is retiring from football. The former Portugal captain has been with Inter since 2005 and helped the club to four successive championship titles.

Inter finished top with 84 points, Milan second on 74, Juventus, which beat Lazio 2-0, third on 74, with Fiorentina fourth with 68.

Juventus midfielder Pavel Nedved also bid adieu to the Turin club.

Genoa goes into the Europa League with Roma and cup winner Lazio following its 4-1 win against Lecce.

In Germany, Nuremberg gained promotion to the first division when it beat Energie Cottbus 2-0 in the second leg of their Bundesliga playoff Sunday.

Nuremberg, which finished third in the second division, beat the 16th-place team from the top flight 5-0 on aggregate to join Freiburg and Mainz in getting promoted.
