A young woman in Wuhan, central China, has received 6,000 yuan, or about 880 USD, in compensation after being stung by a yellow hornet while eating out at a local KFC outlet.
On September 18 last year, Ms. Yang, a 21 year old university student, was unfortunately stung by a large hornet while having her fried chickens with her friends at a KFC fast-food chain restaurant in Qunguang Plaza in Wuhan.
She suffered an instant allergic reaction with reddened and swelled skin. She even lost consciousness while her friends and a KFC manager hurried her on way to hospital.
Ms. Yang was hospitalized for 16 days. The Qunguang Plaza and Yum!Brand Wuhan - the parent company of KFC, paid out 4,800 yuan to cover her medical costs. But Ms. Yang further claimed for her physical and mental stress she suffered from the incident, saying it affected her university study and she should receive more compensation.
After negotiations failed, Ms. Yang brought Qunguang Plaza and Yum!Brand to court. At the end of December last year, Yum!Brand finally agreed to pay an additional 1,400 yuan to Ms. Yang. In the end, Yang received a two part money in total on Thursday, January 15.
