US President George W. Bush said on Monday that the United
States will seek another UN Security Council resolution on Lebanon
to specify the role of the multinational force to be deployed in
southern Lebanon.
"There will be another resolution coming out of the United
Nations giving further instructions to the international force,"
Bush said at a press conference held in the White House.
"First things first is to get the rules of engagement clear, so
that the force will be robust to help the Lebanese," Bush said.
"One thing is for certain is that when this force goes in to
help Lebanon, Hezbollah won't have that safe haven nor the freedom
to run in Lebanon's southern border," Bush added.
The United States has called on European countries to take the
lead in contributing troops to the 15,000 multinational force to be
deployed in southern Lebanon according to a UN Security Council
resolution.
However, European countries have been reluctant by claiming that
the UN resolution on Lebanon did not clearly specify the mission of
the multinational force in southern Lebanon.
