The Nigerian federal government on Saturday reiterated its commitment to electoral reforms that would ensure credible elections in 2011, the News Agency of Nigeria reported Sunday.
Nigeria's Vice President Goodluck Jonathan gave the assurance when visiting Political Leaders Roundtable Fellowship International (PLRTFI) were visiting the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
"It is always disturbing that we should continue to have disputed elections and one thing we must do is to reform the electoral process to win the confidence of the electorate," he said.
"We will make sure that we go the extra mile to achieve this and ensure that the next round of elections will be credible, free and fair," Jonathan added.
The vice president said the electoral body would declare the results of elections at all levels, from the units, to the national as part of the electoral reform process.
He emphasized the need for the creation of the Electoral Offenses Commission to prosecute offenses committed during elections.
He thanked members of the fellowship for their laudable ideas toward moving Nigeria forward politically.
Earlier, the leader of the group, Collins Aimuan, said the organization was set up for moral and spiritual rebirth for all politicians and top government leaders.
He said membership of PLRTFI was built from past and present political leaders who believe in God and is prepared to plead the cause of the vision.
