The president of the UN Security Council, Mexican UN Ambassador Claude Heller, told reporters on Sunday that members of the 15-nation body " agreed to continue consultations to take appropriate actions" in response to the rocket launch by the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK).
The president made the remarks at the end of closed-door consultations of the Council, which convened an emergency session at the request of Japan on Sunday afternoon.
"The Security Council held emergency consultations to address the serious situation and listen to the concerns arising from the launch by the DPRK," the president said.
"Members of the Security Council exchanged views and information in this regard," he said. "Members of the Security Council agreed to continue consultations on appropriate reaction by the Security Council in accordance with its responsibility given the urgency of the matter."
