China on Wednesday hailed the progress made during the talks between the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK) and Japan in northeast China, calling for more positive results in upcoming talks.
China has always supported the DPRK and Japan in their effort to solve respective concerns and improve relations via dialogue, Foreign Ministry spokesman Qin Gang said in Beijing.
"We hope the talks could continue and get positive results," Qin told reporters.
The two nations held two days of talks in the northeastern Chinese city of Shenyang that closed early Wednesday, agreeing that the DPRK would wrap up a reinvestigation into past abductions of Japanese nationals this autumn.
As for the six-party nuclear talks on the Korean Peninsula, Qin said the parties are coordinating for the comprehensive and balanced implementation of the second-phase action, which requires the DPRK to declare and disable its nuclear facilities in exchange for energy and economic aid.
Qin said China backs the parties concerned to negotiate via bilateral or multilateral channels within the framework of six-party talks.
"We hope the parties could move toward each other to promote the six -party talks," he said, adding that China is willing to exert positive and constructive influence on the issue.
The six-party talks involve China, the DPRK, the United States, the Republic of Korea, Japan and Russia.
