Foreign leaders support China's efforts to defend territorial integrity, national unity
Adjust font size:

Leaders of numerous countries around the world in the last few days have voiced their support for the Chinese government's efforts to safeguard territorial integrity and national unity in the face of the recent riots in China's Tibet Autonomous Region.

Zambian acting President Rupiah Banda on Wednesday in Lusaka expressed his firm support for the Chinese government's measures which aim to restore Tibet's stability and social order.

Noting Tibet has been an inalienable part of the Chinese territory, he opposed boycotting the Beijing Olympic Games by taking advantage of the so-called "Tibet issue".

His remarks were echoed by Zambian Foreign Minister Kabinga Pande, who also backed the Chinese government's legitimate anti-crimes measures.

The Syrian Foreign Ministry on Thursday issued a statement, condemning the criminal acts of beatings, vandalism, looting and burning in Tibet's Lhasa by the rioters and their wire-pullers.

The criminal acts were designed to sabotage China's territorial integrity and national unity, said the statement, expressing Syria's firm support for the Chinese government's efforts in dealing with the riots.

Kazakh Deputy Foreign Minister Nurlan Baiuzakovich Yermekbayev on Thursday said Tibet is an inseparable part of the Chinese territory while the Tibet issue is undoubtedly China's internal affair.

Kazakhstan supports the measures taken by the Chinese government in efforts to defend Tibet's social stability, he said.

Mokolo wa MPombo, vice Senate speaker of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), on Thursday said the affair pertaining to Tibet is China's internal affair, and the DRC resolutely supports the Chinese government to take all necessary measures to stabilize Tibet.

He made the remarks while meeting with Chinese Ambassador to the DRC Wu Zexian, saying his country opposed any attempt to politicize the Beijing Olympic Games.

Yanaki Boyanov Stoilov, chairman of the Legal Affairs Committee of the Bulgarian National Assembly, also joined the voice to support the Chinese government.

When meeting with Chinese Ambassador to Bulgaria Zhang Wanxue on Thursday, the congressman said Tibet is an inalienable part of the Chinese territory and the Tibet issue is China's internal affair.

The recent riot will not affect the upcoming Olympics, he said, reiterating Bulgaria's long-standing support for Beijing's host of the event.
