China's Science and Technology Minister Xu Guanhua said on
Tuesday that in order to control frequent academic frauds, China
will establish a "stained" archive of academic frauds and considers
publicizing investigation results of such cases.
"The Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST) will investigate
all academic fraud cases. At present, MOST is considering unveiling
the results to the public and planning to set up a 'stained'
archive of those who committed academic frauds."
During the lately closed National People's Congress and Chinese
People's Political Consultative Conference, Xu had explicitly
stated that China should investigate all academic fraud cases "in a
thorough and determined manner" in order to avoid embarrassing
situations similar to the Hwang Woo-suk scandal of South Korea.
Besides reinforcing control on academic frauds, MOST has
instituted 60 new policies and measures in terms of assessment and
awarding of sci-tech discoveries to encourage innovation and boost
scientific and technological development of China.
