In June 2000, a micro-light aircraft illegally entered China's airspace. On receiving the news, the air force immediately scrambled two fighter jets. The micro-light aircraft tried to evade the jets by flying slowly at low altitude but the Chinese fighter pilots in a skillful maneuver forced the "enemy" plane to ditch in a fish pond.

According to related overseas media reports, the incident demonstrated the Chinese Air Force's vigilance, rapid response capability and piloting skills.
