While scandals about the abuses of Iraqi POWs becoming a
headache of the Bush administration, some analysts gave their
points of view on the issue, believing that the US Mideast policies
and the situation of the region as a whole will be affected.
First of all, the validity and justice of the war that the US
and his followers imposed on Iraq will be questioned again. The
abuse of Iraqi prisoners obviously has proved the inhumanity of
this originally controversial war. It is the Americans themselves
who have trampled "freedom" and "human right," the two flags they
held high while declaring war upon the Mideast country.
Second, the Iraqi situation doubtlessly remains tense and even
more serious. The rising anti-America passion of the Iraqi people
nationwide will arouse more attacks to the Americans there. As a
result, Bush will get less support for his Iraqi policy from his
own people. And, furthermore, his alliance in the Iraq War is
likely to be crippled.
Another point is that the Iraqi prisoner-abuse issue offers
progressive activists of the Middle East an environment and opinion
support for continuing what they have been doing. It helps the
al-Qaeda and other terrorist organizations to recruit new members
and expand themselves.
