An international conference on climate change in the mountainous countries is to be held in the capital Kathmandu on April 5- 6 under the aegis of the Ministry of Environment of the government of Nepal.

The objective of the conference is drawing global attention on the effects of climate change in the mountain region, according to information given out at a news conference.

The conference is being held in association with the Kathmandu- based International Center for Integrated Mountain Development and experts from 55 countries are expected to attend the conference.

The conference will discuss seeking collective solutions to the problems created by climate change in the mountain countries, and also issue the Kathmandu Declaration.

Countries with mountains above 4,000 meters from the sea level will participate in the international conference.

Secretary at the Ministry of Environment, Krishna Gyawali said the conference is aimed at forging a common approach on and seeking the solution to the global problem of climate change.

He also said that a joint forum will be constituted for combating the problems of climate change in the mountainous countries after holding deliberations on the topic.
