Tsunami triggered by a 8.9- magnitude quake in Japan could arrive in Indonesia with no more than 10 centimeters in height as Indonesian meteorologist monitored that the wave was 10-centimeter high at Palao island in South Pacific, head of the Indonesian Meteorology and Geophysics Agency Sri Woro said in Jakarta on Friday evening.

Previously the agency warned that 0.5-1.0 meter high waves would arrive in northeastern parts of Indonesia at 6:30 p.m. Jakarta time (1135 GMT). "The tsunami may reach Indonesia with the height of less than 10 centimeter," Sri Woro said.

The National Disaster Management and Mitigation Agency and local authorities have ordered the people to stay away from coastal areas and reach higher ground. The authorities also asked ships and boats to be tied up at sea ports.

Indonesia's Aceh was hit by a tsunami in December 2004, which killed over 170,000 people and in October last year the 3-meter high tsunami triggered by 7.7 magnitude quake that hit West Sumatra killed over 500 people and injured hundreds others.
