A moderate 5.8-magnitude earthquake struck Tonga Monday, but there was no immediate tsunami warning issued.

The quake struck 65 kilometers south southeast of Neiafu, Tonha, or 355 km north east of Hihifo of Tonga, at a depth of 37.6 kilometers, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center, which monitors the region and issues bulletins in the event of a tsunami being generated, had no warning in force.

The region lies in the "Pacific ring of fire," a highly active earthquake and volcanic zone that regularly experiences quakes.
