An earthquake measuring 6.1 on the Richter scale rocked south of Panama Wednesday, said the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) on its website.

No casualties or damage were reported.

The quake at 9:51 p.m. local time Wednesday occured near the border of Panama and Costa Rica with the epicenter being located 179 km south of the city of David at the Pacific ocean and at a depth of 10 km, it said.

The capital Panama City is 410 kilometers away from the epicenter and the residents there had no feelings of tremors.
