Smiles on the Roof of the World
When people travel in Tibet, they marvel at the intense and pure colors presented by its mountains, rivers, prayer flags, ornaments, architecture, and dress. What may also impress visitors are the images of gods that are characteristically different from those found in other parts of China. While the statues and paintings of gods found outside the autonomous region usually assume a pondering posture, the Tibetan gods are either smiling with a flower in their hands or glowering with a sword under their arms.

The unique living environment and cultural atmosphere contribute to the distinctive character of the Tibetan ethnic group. Whenever you walk along the streets in Tibet, you feel the friendliness of the local people who almost always greet you with a naive and sincere smile, whether they know you or not.

The kind and carefree smiles reflect the generous, optimistic, and bold character of the Tibetan people and are an unforgettable spiritual experience for every tourist. Their smiles are present all the time--when you enter a tent with hunger and exhaustion, when you come across a festive carnival, when you are happy or in a bad mood. The warm-hearted Tibetan people entertain visitors not only with aromatic butter tea, but also with their splendid smiles.

In the intense sunshine, a straightforward and warm smile is like a greeting from the depths of the soul that seeks to bridge the gap between the hearts of strangers.

Perhaps the dynamics that drive the Tibetan people to a better life lie in their philosophy: Smile to life, smile to the world.
