A train collided from behind with another one at a railway station in southwest Indian state Maharashtra late Wednesday night, injuring 15 people, NDTV reported Thursday.

 

An empty train was about to leave for the shed at Thane railway station, 30 km from state capital Mumbai, when it was rammed from behind by another train passing through the station late Wednesday night, the railway officials said.

 

According to initial report, the railway authority believed a signal failure caused the accident but later officials said the motorman Anil Chinchkar was responsible and has been detained.

 

"The motorman had passed the signal when it was red. It then came and hit the empty train, which was standing at the station," said R.S. Virdi, divisional railway manager of Central Railway, Mumbai.
