The China Central Meteorological Observatory has issued a blue wind warning for Beijing with speeds expected to be up to 75kph.
A spokesman for the Observatory says people should avoid working outside where possible.
The Observatory says the wind speed is the fastest recorded this year.
It's expected to drop this afternoon to around 20kph.
