LPG to Fuel Buses, Taxis

ALL Guangzhou buses and taxis would use liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) next year, the Southern Metropolitan News reported Tuesday.

By the end of the year, 2,390 buses -- 44 percent of the total -- and 7,520 taxies would be using LPG, the report said.

A conference at the Guangzhou Communications Institute in July, was told it would be feasible for Guangzhou to introduce LPG buses in three years.

Compressed Natural Gas (CNG), another form of clean energy, would be introduced in 2008.

Motor vehicle exhaust emissions have been a major source of urban pollution.

To solve the problem by the end of 2005, the government is promoting the use of LPG and preparing for the introduction of CNG at the same time.
