Ugandan Minister of State for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees Christine Amongin Aporu disclosed on Thursday that there are a total of 200,000 refugees registered in the east African country.
Minister Aporu was quoted by Radio Uganda as saying on Thursday night that the majority of these refugees are created by man-made and natural disasters.
She told that man-made disasters like armed conflicts and wars are a major cause of refugees in Uganda.
She regretted that the most vulnerable class of refugees are infants children and the elderly who cannot grapple with refugee challenges like malnutrition, malaria and lack of housing.
Uganda has more than ten refugees settlements which house refugees from neighboring countries including the Sudan, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Rwanda, Burundi and Somalia.
