German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier (3rdL) gestures as he poses for a family picture with his counterparts Sergei Lavrov of Russia (L-R), U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, Yang Jiechi of China, Bernard Kouchner of France, David Miliband of Great Britain and EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana in Berlin, January 22, 2008, before their meeting on Iran.

Foreign Ministers from the United States, Germany, China, France, Britain and Russia have agreed on the major points of a U.N. resolution on the Iran nuclear issue, German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier said in Berlin on Tuesday.

Steinmeier made the remarks at a press conference at the interval of the six-nation foreign minister's meeting on the Iran nuclear issue, which started in Berlin on Tuesday afternoon.

"We are happy that we have reached consensus on major points of the next Security Council Resolution," Steinmeier said.

"Germany, France and Great Britain are going to submit the draft of such a text to the Security Council," he said, adding that the Security Council would then discuss the draft over the next weeks.

German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier and his counterparts from China, Russia, the US, Britain and France sit at a round table during a meeting in Berlin.

However, Steinmeier did not elaborate on the details of the text of the draft resolution.

He added that the ministers would continue their talks on the issue on Tuesday night right after the press conference.

Steinmeier said Tuesday's discussion is "fruitful" and "positive", and all parties involved were worrying about the Iran nuclear issue, as a nuclear-armed Iran "would have dramatic consequences for the Middle East and beyond."

He also urged Iran to cooperate with the international community, adding that the six nations are not willing to see confrontation on the issue.
