Russian Ambassador: Putin's China Visit Will Further Boost Ties

Russian Ambassador to China Igor Rogachev said in Beijing Sunday at a press conference that Russian President Vladimir Putin's impending China visit would help strengthen the coordination between Russia and China on international issues and further boost the bilateral ties.

Putin's China visit is at the 55 anniversary of the founding of Sino-Russian diplomatic ties which reflects the common aspiration of both nations to improve bilateral relations and creates opportunity for further implementing the Sino-Russian Good-Neighborly Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation signed in 2001, Rogachev said.

"Russia is willing to join hands with China to make efforts to improve bilateral ties and enhance coordination on major international issues," the ambassador said.

According to Rogachev, both Russia and China are satisfied with the current growth of bilateral ties and Russia has been ready to optimize the mechanism for the bilateral economic and trade cooperation.

Rogachev said that the two nations would reiterate their stance of safeguarding the integrity of sovereign territory and Russia would reaffirmed its positions on Taiwan and Tibet.

The series of terrorist attacks that occurred not long ago in Russia were new threats that international terrorism posed for the international community, Rogachev acknowledged, adding that, during the summit, the Russian and Chinese leaders would hold special discussions on the current cooperation and its further development on campaigns against terrorism.

Rogachev also said China and Russia would sign a political document that "carries special weight," viewing the current development of bilateral ties and deciding the direction for bilateral cooperation in substantial fields.

The two sides would also had an exchange of views on the United Nations' role on international issues, maintaining the peace and stability on Asia-Pacific region and Nuclear issue on Korean Peninsula, Rogachev said.
