Shanghai Mayor Han Zheng said in Shanghai Friday that the city, China's biggest business hub, will spare no efforts in the prevention and treatment of severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS).
Han made the remarks at a meeting with James Maguire, an expert with the World Health Organization (WHO), saying the Shanghai Municipal Government had decided to allocate 100 million yuan (12 million US dollars) to SARS prevention and treatment.
Shanghai supported SARS research in every way, noted Han.
He said he hoped the WHO experts would continue monitoring Shanghai's work, make positive suggestions and tell the world the truth.
Maguire, head of a WHO expert team which arrived in Shanghai Monday, expressed his appreciation for the city's open and sincere attitude toward the team and its mission.
