About 20 junior police officers and 400 junior police call members were lauded Monday in Hong Kong for their outstanding performance.
Under the Hong Kong Award for Young People (HKAYP), those junior police officers and junior police call members were awarded with bronze medals at the award presentation ceremony Monday.
The HKAYP is part of an international project which aims to cultivate the best in young people through balanced development by taking part in different activities including practical skills, community services, expeditions and physical recreation.
The Award was launched in Hong Kong in 1961 and the Hong Kong Police Force became one of its 18 Operating Authorities in 1979. The Award features gold, silver and bronze categories for young people aged 14 to 25.
Speaking at the award presentation ceremony, Lee MingKwai, deputy commissioner of police (management), said Hong Kong's younger generation has gained self-discipline, independence and perseverance through participating in a wide variety of challenging activities.
"By making good use of their spare time, our young people have not only benefited from personal development but also become valued members of the society," Lee added.
