China has made all-out efforts to crack down on tax rebate fraud, said Deputy Commissioner of State Administration of Taxation Cui Junhui.
Cui made the remarks in Dalian on Thursday at a national conference on cooperation between trade and taxation departments.
Through joint efforts from relevant departments, over 55,000 businesses had been inspected in the past year, revealing tax rebate theft and fraud worth 8.649 billion yuan (about us$1.04 billion).
Twenty criminals had been sentenced to death, and over 200 people working in governmental or party departments had been punished, he said.
In the campaign against tax rebate fraud, networks run by criminals for years were destroyed, with hardened swindlers caught and bogus businesses wiped out, he said.
Taxation departments had also improved managerial systems, which encouraged orderly tax collection, he said.
