Star Chinese Movies is investing in three high-definition (HD) films with Hong Kong award-winning film-maker Derek Yee as executive producer.

 

The first production off the block is Pandora's Booth which began filming in Hong Kong last week. Featuring Hong Kong pop idols Fiona Sit and Kenny Kwan, the love story is directed by Mak Kai Kwong whose directorial credits include 2001's comedy hit Dummy Mommy, Without a Baby.

 

Yee is delighted that STAR has become a strong investor in Hong Kong's movie production, helping to grow the industry and showcase Hong Kong talent across Asia through Star Chinese Movies. The chance to produce three HD films in a row is hard to come by. Yee was named best director twice at the Hong Kong Film Awards - for C'est La Vie, Mon Cheri in 1994 and more recently for One Nite in Mongkok in 2004.

 

Pandora's Booth, together with the other two HD films, will have their television premieres on Star Chinese Movies through various platforms in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines.

 

"Investing in these HD films underscores Star Chinese Movies commitment to continually providing great content for our audiences across Asia," says Star's Chinese programming general manager Jason Siu.

 

Last year, Star Chinese Movies launched Focus: First Cuts with Andy Lau's film company Focus Films for the production of six HD films in China, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Singapore and Taiwan.

 

The first Focus: First Cuts film, I'll Call You, is now available exclusively on Star Chinese Movies video-on-demand service in Hong Kong while the other five films will make their TV premieres on Star Chinese Movies across Asia.
