South Africans will on Sunday join the rest of the globe in commemorating the 60th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe, the SAPA news agency said on Thursday.
A memorial service and a march past by veterans will take place at the South African National Museum of Military History in Johannesburg on Sunday morning.
Commemorations are also scheduled for other South African cities such as Cape Town and Durban, the SAPA said.
May 8, 1945 was "Victory in Europe" (VE) Day, and it marked the formal end of the war against Nazi dictator Adolf Hitler. With it came the end of six years of misery, suffering, courage and endurance across the world.
The SAPA said the bulk of South Africa's forces had been involved in wars in Italy, and six South African Armored Division took time on the VE Day to parade.
